The Bellierub on…
…all those diet programs
Americans are spending over 1 billion dollars a year on different weight loss programs.
These programs are very popular and highly advertised.
A report published in the Annals of Internal Medicine that was conducted by the
University of Pennsylvania Medical School evaluated many popular diet programs
that people must purchase from a provider. Stand-alone diets, such as Atkins and
South Beach, were not included since they can be attempted without secondary
intervention.
After 1 year on the various programs, the results of the study break down like this:
- Weight Watchers participants lost an average of 6.6 pounds
- Take Off The Pounds participants lost 5% of their body weight
- Optifast and Medifast lost 15% to 25% their first year, but after 4 years they gained
most of it back, for a net loss of 5%
- The popular e.Diets.com participants lost an average of 1.1% of their body weight
after 1 year
There seems to have been a large sum of money spent for a tiny bit of weight loss. Do
you really think people need to spend that kind of money to lose only a few percent of
their body weight after a year? We think not !
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Another study conducted by the Tufts-New England Medical Center evaluated 4 popular
diets and compared them to one another. They are the low-carb Atkins,The
mega-balanced Zone Diet, Weight Watchers (researchers always include this
one…makes you wonder, doesn't it?), and the low-fat Ornish Diet. The amazing
results after 1 year broke down like this:
- 4.6 pounds for Atkins
- 7.1 pounds for Zone
- 6.6 pounds for Weight Watchers
- 7.3 pounds for Ornish.
The researchers concluded that the diet plan was insignificant. Modest weight loss was
achieved only if the participant could consistently adhere to calorie reduction over an
extended time. The more extreme Atkins and Ornish diets were the most likely diets to
be dropped after 1 year's time. In other words, they sucked to be on.
This study, however, concluded one amazing fact. It is a total calorie reduction that will
encourage weight loss regardless of the diet plan that someone is trying to sell you.
Always be aware of this. Follow the money where quick and easy weight loss plans are
concerned. There are 3,500 calories in 1 pound of your body fat. You must force a
caloric deficit of this amount to lose that 1 pound of fat. No easy task!
So grab yourself a cold one and read about The New Beerbellie Diet. It's the one
diet that researchers refuse to include in their studies because of its original
presentation and honesty. It also isn't included in any studies because researchers
probably have not heard of it yet. We hope to change that very soon.
That's the Bellierub… on all those diet programs.
